Achondrogenesis panel
- Achondrogenesis
Achondrogenesis describes a rare group of lethal skeletal dysplasias characterized by an endochondral ossification deficiency that leads to dwarfism with extreme micromelia, a small thorax, a prominent abdomen, anasarca and polyhydramnios. There are three types of achondrogenesis that exist and that differ clinically, radiologically, histologically and genetically: achondrogensis type 1a, type 1b and type 2.
- 1 GenCC submitter rates it definitive or strong
Epiphyseal and Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasias
- SLC26A2-related skeletal dysplasiaAutosomal recessive
A spectrum of skeletal dysplasias caused by SLC26A2 variants, from recessive multiple epiphyseal dysplasia to diastrophic dysplasia and lethal forms.
- ClinGen rates the link definitive
- 5 GenCC submitters rate it definitive or strong
- Multiple epiphyseal dysplasia
A group of conditions affecting the ends of the long bones, causing joint pain and stiffness and early osteoarthritis, caused by genes including COMP, MATN3, COL9A1, COL9A2, COL9A3 and SLC26A2.
- 1 GenCC submitter rates it definitive or strong
Inheritance
- Autosomal recessive
- It takes a changed copy from each parent. With one, you are a carrier and usually unaffected; when both parents are carriers, each child has a one-in-four chance of inheriting two.

Exons of the gene's MANE Select transcript (release v1.5), from NCBI and EMBL-EBI, on the GRCh38 reference genome.
Chromosome bands from UCSC's GRCh38 ideogram (2022-10-29).
Nearby genes from Ensembl release 116, on GRCh38.
Exons make up 8.1 kb of the gene's 26.6 kb; 2,220 of those bases code for the protein.

202
positions in SLC26A2 where ClinVar classes a change as pathogenic or likely pathogenic
None of them falls in a region short reads find hard.
A whole genome covers all 26.6 kb of SLC26A2, introns included, not only the 8.1 kb of exons.
