Hyperthyroidism
Overactivity of the thyroid gland resulting in overproduction of thyroid hormone and increased metabolic rate. Causes include diffuse hyperplasia of the thyroid gland (Graves' disease), single nodule in the thyroid gland, and thyroiditis. The symptoms are related to the increased metabolic rate and include weight loss, fatigue, heat intolerance, excessive sweating, diarrhea, tachycardia, insomnia, muscle weakness, and tremor.

Thyroid Cancer
- Hyperthyroidism
Overactivity of the thyroid gland resulting in overproduction of thyroid hormone and increased metabolic rate. Causes include diffuse hyperplasia of the thyroid gland (Graves' disease), single nodule in the thyroid gland, and thyroiditis. The symptoms are related to the increased metabolic rate and include weight loss, fatigue, heat intolerance, excessive sweating, diarrhea, tachycardia, insomnia, muscle weakness, and tremor.
- 2 GenCC submitters rate it definitive or strong
- Inherited Thyroid Metabolism Disease
An inherited metabolic disease that is has its basis in the disruption of thyroid hormone metabolic process.
- 2 GenCC submitters rate it definitive or strong
- Thyroid Gland Disorder
A disease involving the thyroid gland.
- 2 GenCC submitters rate it definitive or strong
Thyroid Hormone Resistance, Transport & Metabolism Defects
- Resistance to thyroid hormone beta (THRB)
Reduced response to thyroid hormone, with raised thyroid hormone levels and normal or raised TSH; often mistaken for an overactive thyroid.
- 2 GenCC submitters rate it definitive or strong
What knowing changes
Recognising it avoids unnecessary antithyroid drugs, radioiodine or thyroid surgery.
How THRB is laid out
- Coding sequence
- Untranslated region
- Intron
- Direction of transcription
- Known disease-causing sites
- Stretches short reads find hard
Exons of the gene's MANE Select transcript (release v1.5), from NCBI and EMBL-EBI, on the GRCh38 reference genome.
Chromosome bands from UCSC's GRCh38 ideogram (2022-10-29).
Nearby genes from Ensembl release 116, on GRCh38.
Exons make up 7.6 kb of the gene's 377.7 kb; 1,386 of those bases code for the protein.
How a genome test reads THRB
40
positions in THRB where ClinVar classes a change as pathogenic or likely pathogenic
None of them falls in a region short reads find hard.
A whole genome covers all 377.7 kb of THRB, introns included, not only the 7.6 kb of exons.
