Thrombocythaemia 2
Autoszomális domináns
Thrombocythaemia 2 is caused by an inherited change in one copy of MPL that makes the thrombopoietin receptor overactive, so the bone marrow makes too many platelets.
Tünetek és jelek
Raised platelet counts are often found on a routine blood test. Some people have blood clots, headaches or other symptoms related to circulation, and an enlarged spleen can occur. Less often there is bleeding or scarring of the bone marrow.
Mit változtat a diagnózis
Follow-up with a haematologist is recommended to monitor blood counts and assess clot risk. Low-dose aspirin is advised for patients, and cytoreductive medicines are used for higher-risk disease. Genetic counselling is recommended; each child of an affected person has a 1 in 2 chance of inheriting the change, and relatives can have a blood count and testing.
