The genomic prehistory of the Indigenous peoples of Uruguay
This study presents the first whole genome sequences of Uruguay's Indigenous peoples from before European contact, from a 2,000-year-old site in eastern Uruguay. The individuals were linked to ancient individuals from Panama and eastern Brazil but not modern Amazonians, and carried a distinct ancestry previously undetected in South America.

Dante Labs’ involvement
Dante Labs carried out the deep sequencing for this study. Samples selected for deep sequencing were run on our Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform at our facility in L'Aquila, Italy; these included libraries treated with the USER enzyme to help compensate for DNA damage.
Extraction and library preparation were carried out by the research team at the Lindo Ancient DNA laboratory at Emory University, using the Dabney protocol and the NEB Ultra II DNA Library Prep kit for Illumina with modifications for ancient DNA; preliminary screening for endogenous DNA was performed on an Illumina iSeq 100 at the Lindo Lab. Dante Labs' contribution was the deep sequencing of the selected libraries.
