Liver transcriptome dynamics in Holstein cows during the periparturient transition
The study compared liver gene expression in six Holstein cows before and after calving to map how the organ adapts to early lactation. It found 198 differentially expressed genes, with a shift towards energy production and cell survival rather than storage and growth.

Dante Labs’ involvement
Dante Labs carried out the RNA extraction and sequencing for this study as a contracted RNA-seq service. All twelve frozen liver tissue samples were shipped to us, and total RNA was extracted as part of the contracted service according to our internal standard protocols. RNA quantity was assessed using spectrophotometry and RNA integrity using an automated electrophoresis system, and all samples met sequencing quality thresholds. The paper does not specify the extraction chemistry or kit used.
Libraries for each tissue sample were prepared using the Illumina Ribo-Zero Plus rRNA Depletion Kit and sequenced on an Illumina NovaSeq platform with 2 × 150 bp reads, producing at least 6.5 Gb of RNA-seq data per library. We delivered the raw FASTQ files to the research team, who carried out all downstream bioinformatics analysis.
