Dante Labs vs tellmeGen
Dante Labs vs tellmeGen: the same 30X genome, read to a different standard.
tellmeGen Ultra and Dante Labs both sequence your whole genome at 30X. They differ in the laboratories that do it, in what the reports are meant for, and in how you get your data back. Here is how they compare, with sources.
What the results are for
Two answers from the same genome.
tellmeGen Ultra · Whole genome, 30X
Informational reports
tellmeGen describes its reports as predictive and informative. They do not constitute a diagnosis, and it asks that results be confirmed by a validated clinical method in an accredited laboratory before any medical decision.
Dante Labs · Whole genome, 30X
Physician-ready reports
Sequenced in CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited labs, with variants classified against ACMG guidelines, the standard clinical geneticists use. Reports are written to be taken to your doctor, and updated as the science advances.
Both read the whole genome.
What matters is what you can do with the result.

The lab
The same sequencing, a different standard.
At 30X, both tests read each position of your genome about 30 times on average. That much is common ground. The difference is the laboratory standard the sequencing is done under.
tellmeGen names its reference laboratories as Eurofins Genomics in Denmark, GenePlanet in Slovenia and MGI in Poland, and says they hold quality certifications such as ISO/IEC 17025, a general standard for testing laboratories. Its own ISO 13485 certification is in progress, and it expects CE-IVD marking in March 2027.
Dante's samples are processed in CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited partner labs in the US and EU, with genomic processing under ISO 15189, the international standard written specifically for medical laboratories. These are the accreditations hospital systems look for when they approve a laboratory for clinical use.
Reports
More reports that you can act on
tellmeGen Ultra lists more than 625 reports across health, medicines, personal traits, wellness and ancestry. Dante Premium includes 810+ physician-ready reports. The two counts measure different things.
tellmeGen's count includes traits and wellness items alongside health, and its reports are informational: in its own words they “should not be used alone to initiate, suspend, or adjust treatments”. Dante's reports cover hereditary risk, drug response and carrier status, classified against ACMG guidelines so that a doctor can work from them.
Both keep reading your genome as the science moves on. tellmeGen updates reports through its tellmeGen+ membership, included for three months and then yearly. Dante updates your reports through your plan, without a new sample.
Choosing
When tellmeGen is the better fit.
tellmeGen Ultra costs less up front and returns results sooner, in 4–6 weeks against Dante's 6–8. If you want a broad, informational overview of your genome, with traits and wellness alongside health, it is a good choice.
If you want results a doctor can work from, sequenced in an accredited clinical laboratory, with your full sequencing files to keep, that is what Dante is built for.
Questions
Dante Labs vs tellmeGen: common questions
Its Ultra test does, at a 30X average. Its Starter and Advanced tests use a genotyping microarray that measures about 750,000 markers and estimates others from them.
tellmeGen names Eurofins Genomics (Denmark), GenePlanet (Slovenia) and MGI (Poland) as its reference laboratories, without saying which handles which test. Dante's samples are processed in CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited partner labs in the US and EU, with genomic processing in Italy under ISO 15189.
tellmeGen lets you download your raw data up to three times a year at no extra cost; its pages do not list the file formats. Dante gives you your full FASTQ, BAM and VCF files, always free to download.
tellmeGen expects Ultra results 4–6 weeks after its lab receives the sample. Dante's whole genome results typically arrive 6–8 weeks after the lab receives it, with email updates at each step.
tellmeGen Ultra includes three months of tellmeGen+, then €29.99 a year, renewing automatically, to keep reports updated. Dante's Core plan comes with the kit; Premium and Premium + AI are yearly plans.
You control your data: download, delete or anonymise it at any time. Dante does not sell personal or genomic data, and nothing is shared without your explicit consent. Data handling follows GDPR and HIPAA.
