This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on this website: who sets them, what they do, how long they last and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. We also use your browser’s session storage, which works in a similar way but is cleared when you close the tab. In this policy, “cookies” covers both.
Your choices
Strictly necessary cookies are always on, because the site cannot work without them. Everything else is optional, and we ask you first:
- Analytics cookies are off until you allow them, except in the United States, where they are on until you turn them off.
- Advertising cookies are off everywhere until you allow them.
You can change your choices at any time with the Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of every page. When you withdraw consent we stop the optional tags and delete the cookies they set on this site. We keep your choices for six months, then ask again.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a refusal of advertising cookies, and of analytics cookies too if you have not made a choice. In the United States, turning off advertising cookies, or sending GPC, opts you out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information through these cookies, as state privacy laws define those terms.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are set by us or, during checkout, by our payment processor. They do not need your consent.
- dante_consent (Dante Labs, 6 months): remembers your cookie choices.
- dante-language (Dante Labs, 1 year): remembers a language you picked.
- dante-announcement (Dante Labs, 1 year): remembers that you closed an announcement, so it is not shown again.
- __stripe_mid (Stripe, 1 year) and __stripe_sid (Stripe, 30 minutes): set on the order page by Stripe, our payment processor, to prevent fraud.
- Session storage (Dante Labs, until you close the tab): keeps your basket and order details through checkout and the order confirmation, your conversation with Ask Dante, and a note of which purchase has already been recorded, so a reloaded confirmation page is not counted twice.
Analytics cookies
With your consent, or in the United States unless you opt out, we use Google Analytics, provided by Google, to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people move between them and how quickly pages load. Google Analytics gives your browser a random identifier; it does not tell us who you are.
- _ga (Google, 2 years): tells one browser apart from another.
- _ga_QNTCWZ80TM (Google, 2 years): keeps track of your current visit.
Advertising cookies
Only with your consent, we use advertising tools from Google and Meta to find out whether our ads lead to visits and orders, and so that those platforms can show our ads to people who have visited our site. These tools receive the pages you view, the products you add to your basket and the value of an order. They never receive your test results or any genetic data.
- _gcl_au (Google Ads, 90 days): links visits and orders to the Google ads that led to them.
- _gcl_aw (Google Ads, 90 days): set when you arrive by clicking a Google ad, and records that click.
- _fbp (Meta, 90 days): identifies your browser to Meta, to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram.
- _fbc (Meta, 90 days): set when you arrive by clicking a Facebook or Instagram ad, and records that click.
Google and Meta may also read cookies they have set on their own domains, such as google.com, doubleclick.net and facebook.com, for example if you are signed in to their services. Those cookies are under their control: see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Meta’s Cookies Policy.
Other services on the order page
Payments are handled by Stripe. As you type your shipping address, Stripe suggests matching addresses using Google Maps, so what you type in the address field is sent to Google. Neither sets cookies beyond the Stripe cookies listed above.
Where your information goes
Google, Meta and Stripe are based in the United States, so information collected through their cookies may be processed there. These transfers are protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, under which each of them is certified, or by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site, such as checkout, from working.
Changes and questions
We update this policy whenever the cookies we use change, and the date at the top changes with it. If you have a question about it, contact us through our support centre at support.dantelabs.com.
