Trait
Viral encephalitis
An inflammation of brain parenchyma due to infection with a virus. Viral encephalitis can occur as a rare complication of common infections (eg, herpes virus infections) or can occur as a characteristic presentation of rare viruses (eg, rabies virus infection). Encephalitis may be the only neurologic manifestation of infection, or may occur in association with meningitis, myelitis, radiculitis, or neuritis. Viral encephalitis is associated with neurological dysfunction.

Changes in these genes cause rare conditions in which Viral encephalitis is seen. Most people with this trait have none of those conditions, and a gene on this list says nothing about anyone's own genome.
| Gene | How often it is seen | Conditions |
|---|---|---|

How often is among people with one of the gene's conditions, the most often across them, as the Human Phenotype Ontology records it. These pages describe traits and the research behind them; they are not a diagnosis, and a doctor or genetic counsellor is the person to ask about symptoms.
