Trait
Glomerular basement membrane duplication
Glomerular basement membrane duplication (GBM-DP) can be seen with Periodic acid-Schiff and silver stains. This appearance results from the presence of subendothelial deposits and the so-called mesangial interposition whereby mesangial cells, infiltrating mononuclear cells, or even portions of endothelial cells interpose themselves between the endothelium and basement membrane, with new, inner GBM-like material being laid down. This produces a double contour or tram-track appearance on light or electron microscopy. This finding often reflects splitting of the lamina densa and is associated with disease processes such as membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, transplant glomerulopathy, and diabetic nephropathy.

Changes in these genes cause rare conditions in which Glomerular basement membrane duplication is seen. Most people with this trait have none of those conditions, and a gene on this list says nothing about anyone's own genome.
| Gene | How often it is seen | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| PLD4phospholipase D family member 4 | Always | In 1 condition |
How often is among people with one of the gene's conditions, the most often across them, as the Human Phenotype Ontology records it. These pages describe traits and the research behind them; they are not a diagnosis, and a doctor or genetic counsellor is the person to ask about symptoms.
