A novel Penicillium sumatraense isolate reveals an arsenal of degrading enzymes exploitable in algal bio-refinery processes
This work sought enzymes able to break down microalgal cell walls and improve lipid extraction for biofuel production. It isolated and whole-genome sequenced a novel Penicillium sumatraense fungus whose filtrate increased lipid and chlorophyll release from Chlorella vulgaris by 48.9% and 42.6%.

Dante Labs’ involvement
Dante Labs carried out the whole-genome sequencing (NGS analysis) of the novel Penicillium sumatraense isolate described in this study. The genomic DNA preparation, extracted by the research team, was sequenced on our Illumina NovaSeq platform at our L'Aquila laboratory in Italy. The paper does not specify the library preparation kit, sequencing coverage or read length.
