Neurofibromatose ist eine erbliche Erkrankung, die durch das Auftreten gutartiger Tumoren, sogenannter Neurofibrome, entlang des Nervenverlaufs gekennzeichnet ist. Die beiden Haupttypen unterscheiden sich klinisch und genetisch, obwohl sie derselben nosologischen Einheit angehören. Die genetischen Veränderungen, die der Neurofibromatose zugrunde liegen, beeinträchtigen die Tumorsuppressorfunktion der beteiligten Gene und ebnen so den Weg für eine unkontrollierte Zellproliferation.
Dieses Panel unterstützt die Diagnose von Neurofibromatose, die im Allgemeinen im Erwachsenenalter auftritt, ist aber auch für Personen nützlich, bei denen die Pathologie in der Familienanamnese positiv war (dies ist der Hauptrisikofaktor).
