Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) is a disease that causes progressive liver disease, typically leading to liver failure. In people with PFIC, liver cells are less able to secrete bile, and the buildup of bile in liver cells causes liver disease.
Familial intrahepatic cholestasis is a group of rare inherited liver disorders that can cause jaundice, itching, and other symptoms. Familial intrahepatic cholestasis is caused by mutations in genes involved in bile production and transport.
This panel is designed for individuals with a family history of familial intrahepatic cholestasis or individuals with symptoms of the condition. Genetic testing can confirm a diagnosis, provide information on disease severity and progression, and inform treatment and management decisions. Testing can also inform family planning decisions and provide reassurance for unaffected family members.

The analysis takes into consideration the mutation of germline DNA, it investigates SNP and Indel mutations up to 150 bp.
